Short takes, pt.15.

Or, "Look what I received from Induna today!"

I'm addicted to ordering from Induna. If my blog attracted several hundred unique visitors per week, I'd sign up for their affliate program. Anyway...

Dekha Pyar Tumhara(1985) - I thought, "What the hell?" Even though I'm not really a fan of Kamal's Hindi movies, I find myself wanting to collect as many of them as I can find, just because.

Gateway of India(1957) - I have no idea what this is about. I got it because of Madhubala, even though I wasn't really feeling her looks in this song.

Kal Hamara Hai(1959) - I did a half-assed post here. Madhubala in a double role, that's all I know.

Masterji(1985) - Rajesh Khanna kinda annoys me, but Sridevi AND Anita Raj in the same movie? Okay. I thought I would try to watch the Telugu original first but again, "What the hell?"

Naata(1955) - No clue, but Madhubala, y'know, so...

Qaid(1975) - I saw some screencaps posted in the Leena Chandavarkar thread on Indomania and thought she looked good, so I tried to hunt it down, but Nehaflix didn't carry the DVD at the time, and I hadn't yet discovered Induna, so I forgot about it until last Friday, when I was searching for films to buy. According to Nehaflix, "A girl's evil uncle plots against her in order to steal her inheiritance". Sounds good to me. I hope it's entertaining, even if it's in a unintentionally hilarious way.

What should I get during my next visit to Induna? I would like to check out more Bengali flicks, but I don't know where to start. I guess I could get Sab Choritra Kalponik, and/or maybe Neel Nirjane. Aainaate, Swapner Din, Amanush, Nirjan Saikate, Antaheen, and Kaalpurush are other possibilities. I'll have to keep those titles in mind.

Short takes, pt. 14.

Or, "What did I order from Induna today?"

Jiban Maran(1939) - Hit "add to cart" on a whim since it was from the 30s, and the plot sounds like the kind of melodramatic pap I usually enjoy.

Kaun? Kaisey?(1983) - I sort of blogged about it here.

Bahu Ki Awaaz(1985) - A film about dowry deaths. IIRC, the movie poster for this was shown briefly during a documentary about bride burning that I watched in college.

Zulm Ka Badla(1985) - The plot sounds female-oriented, and Anita Raj looks very pretty in this song so I thought, "What the hell?"

Anokha Andaaz(1995) - This used to be aired pretty frequently on what was then known as the International Channel. (The name was later changed to AZN. Don't know what it's called now since I no longer get that channel.) Manisha Koirala is absolutely gorgeous in this flick. I've wanted a copy of this film for ages.

I passed on: Sab Choritra Kalponik(I was curious to see Bipasha Basu in a Bengali movie, but decided to hold off for now); Clerk(from what I've read, it's a hot mess, and not in a good way); Prem Qaidi(I decided I didn't want to see Lolo's debut that badly); Dil Ka Sathi Dil(dubbed Hindi version of Madanolsavam. I'd rather have the original); Dekha Pyar Tumhara(maybe later); Masterji(I'd rather watch the original Telugu version--I forget the title--first); Dulari(it sounded like something I might want to watch, but I was afraid it would just end up collecting dust. Maybe next time).

ETA 01/05/10: Thanks to my sudden renewed interest in Madhubala, I ordered three more movies, including Dulari. The other two are Rail Ka Dibba and Singaar. I wanted Tarana as well, but it's out of stock.

Now that I think about it, I should've checked for Neel Kamal--well, I just did, and it's not listed. I found three songs on YouTube, though: "Kal Jamuna Tat Par", "Bhool Jathe Hain", and "Jawani Agar Haae".

ETA 01/21/10: I found Shammi Kapoor so appealing(in spite of the pencil-thin moustache) in Rail Ka Dibba that I ordered An Evening in Paris. As an added bonus, Sharmila Tagore dons a bikini--yay!

I also got Police, starring Madhubala. I thought she looked great in the YouTube vids on this site(scroll down to the "Chale Hum Kahan..." video), so I "had" to get it, just as I "had" to get Ek Saal after skimming this review. I've changed my stance on Madhubala. Before, I thought she was "pretty, but not all that", but now I think she was damn gorgeous. Maybe I should've gotten Badal as well. Perhaps I'll order it when/if Tarana becomes available.

Last, but not least, Teesra Kinara, "a drama packed romantic story that revolves around the love triangle of three persons", according to this site. Raj Babbar gives me the creeps, but Anita Raj is in it, as well as Smita Patil, so I figure it won't be that bad.

I wish Induna carried Tamil films so that I would have a (hopefully) cheaper alternative to Bhavani and Anytamil.

ETA 01/27/10: Got my stuff yesterday. I'm so glad I finally ordered from Induna. Again, if they carried Tamil DVDs and/or VCDs, a miniscule part of my life would be complete.

Watched Zulm Ki Badla this past Saturday. Not bad, and Anita was featured rather prominently. She and Sridevi look great in black. In fact, I was reminded of Sri in Sherni as soon as I spotted Anita in her black get-up.

Bahu Ki Awaaz is very heavy. Watching Swaroop Sampat getting tortured was not fun. I realize it's a "social drama" and all, but still...the older I get, the more lightweight I prefer my viewing and reading material to be.

Jiban Maran was a not-bad viewing experience. I felt ridiculously thrilled to be viewing a film from 1939.

Kaun? Kaisey? was pretty awesome in a "sourced-from-VHS-god-I-love-the-80s" sort of way. Didn't really pay attention to the plot, just enjoyed looking at Anita Raj and watching Mithun(not a fan, but I think he has a larger-than-life screen presence that's interesting to watch). Will have to give it another viewing soon.

ETA 01/28/10: After one viewing of Police I've decided that I'm in love with Madhubala and that I "have" to order ALL of her movies. I probably won't do that, but I certainly feel like it, just so I can see MOAR of her.

And Sharmila Tagore? From the second she appeared onscreen in An Evening in Paris the following line from the song "Venus" popped into my head: "She's got it, yeah baby, she's got it!" Her daughter Soha, however, does NOT have it. Saif might have it, but I think I'm feeling kindly towards him just because he's with Kareena. Anyway...I must do a write-up on An Evening in Paris once I've watched it properly.

P.S. I ordered Vamsi and Desamuduru and hopefully, I'll do posts for those films as well. I've gotten so used to not blogging, but maybe I should get back into the habit, just to keep what's left of my brain active.

Short takes, pt.13.

AKA "I FINALLY ordered from Induna!"

This is what I bought:

Abodh(1984) - Madhuri's debut. I didn't quite blog about it here. I wish Gaja Gamini had also been in stock, but it seems to be permanently out of print.

Dev D(2009) - The DVD was out of stock, so I got the VCD. I hope I like it. If not, I can always stare at Kalki Koechlin's lips.

Dil Ki Rani(1947) - Madhubala's first movie. A blogger who watched this wasn't impressed, but that didn't deter me. I usually find something likeable about the films that most people hate.

Kidnap(2009) - I read about it on ajnabi1977's blog, and since it was only $1.67, I thought, "What the heck?"

Yeh To Kamal Ho Gaya(1982) - YAY!!!! FINALLY!!!! I hope the Eagle VCDs don't act up as badly as the DVDs. I posted about it here.

Zara Si Zindagi(1983) - Once again: YAY!!!! FINALLY!!!! Here is my original blog post.

The shipping and handling charge was $20.93 for $7.93 worth of movies BUT, at least I was able to get four movies I've been really, really wanting to see for the longest. And if the shipping is super fast, that's another bonus. Plus, I would like an alternative to Nehaflix and the occasional Amazon seller for Hindi movies, particularly ones that aren't yet available on DVD. So, I will keep my fingers crossed and hope that I will be pleased enough to make more purchases from Induna in the future.

ETA 11/23/09: My movies arrived today. Celebrate me! All of my discs were nicely packaged. I hope they play okay. I'm already thinking of other titles I'd like to order.

ETA2 11/23/09: I tried all but the Dev D and Abodh discs and they play fine, even the Eagle VCDs. Quick and/or shallow thoughts:

Zara Si Zindagi - It's not a bad viewing experience, as long as I remember to not compare it to the original, Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu.

Yeh To Kamal Ho Gaya - Hannah Mitchell is not quite as beautiful as I initially thought, and her acting sucked; still, I'll take her over that seemingly stoned French chick in Sattam En Kayil.

Kidnap - Minissha I'm-too-lazy-to-Google-her-last-name is bearable only when she's wearing skimpy clothes. I don't know how old she's supposed to be in real life, but playing a 17 year old? Ha! More like "17 going on 29 or 30". Her Britney Spears circa 1999 number was amusing for about a minute, then I had to hit the "skip chapter" button. Imraan Khan looked good. I want him to kidnap me. I bet we'd have all kinds of fun together. **shifts eyes**

Dil Ki Rani - I found it watchable enough, probably because I had zero expectations and didn't concentrate too hard. I have a feeling it will make frequent appearances in my DVD player. (Aside: It seems like the type of film my dad would enjoy.)

ETA 11/24/09: I looked up whatsherface on Wikipedia and she was allegedly born in 1985. Maybe she really is 24 but to me, she doesn't look a day under 30. From the neck down, she's fine, but her face makes me wish Hansika Motwani had been cast instead, simply because she's actually a teenager, even if she doesn't look it. Anyhoo...

Imran...mmmmmmm. I'm not a fan but I find him pretty hot in Kidnap. Isn't he in Luck with Shruti Haasan and FILF co-star Sanjay Dutt? Yeah, I think so. Not that I want to see that movie, but I just remembered.

From what I've seen so far, it seems like a decent Saturday night timepass, the kind of flick you watch when there's nothing else on the tube. And it was under $2 so it's not like I wasted a bunch of money on it.

I gave the 2nd disc of Dev D about twenty minutes of my time. I liked what I saw but the soundtrack gave me a headache, as did the commercials at the beginning of the disc(luckily, I was able to skip through them). I hope the DVD comes back in stock soon so that I won't have to always get up to change discs.

Short takes, pt.12.

AKA "The Madhuri Dixit edition, in 25 words or less."

100 Days(1991) - Her acne was at its worst, but she managed to look pretty in spite of it. Decent timepass.

Anjaam(1994) - I finally got the hype about her looks. Great hair and wonderful smile. Loved the ending.

Beta(1992) - The "Dhak Dhak Dil Karne Laga song was about the only thing I liked, aside from Madz herself.

Dayavan(1988) - I got this only for the smooch scene.

Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin(1990) - In this day and age, she would've filed a restraining order instead of marrying her stalker ardent fan. The first song is cute and bouncy.

Devdas(2002) - Pretty to behold, but too melodramatic for even overly melodramatic me. Watched it only for Madz.

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun!(1994) - I didn't make it past the first half-hour but IIRC, Madz made an entrance on roller skates.

Kanoon Apna Apna(1989) - I remember thinking how skinny her legs were in this song. I also remember **ahem** a couple of other things.

Khal Nayak(1993) - To be honest, I watched only the "Choli Ke Peeche" song. My Shemaroo disc refuses to let me cap it.

Koyla(1997) - SRK's mullet = love, Madhuri = gorgeous. Best of all, my Video Sound DVD didn't skip OR freeze. How often does that happen?

Phool(1993) - Flashes of certain scenes are dancing in my head but overall, I'm drawing a blank. Pic quality on Baba disc sucked.

Prem Pratigyaa(1989) - I remember thinking it was pretty good, but that's it.

Raja(1995) - Madhuri's presence made this very mediocre film watchable.

Sangeet(1992) - This number was an eye-opener. I recall thinking Madhuri was good in her dual role, but not much else.

Tezaab(1988) - The "Ek Do Teen" song is catchy. Too bad my (Video Sound) disc froze at chapter eight.

Friday, June 19, 2009

Short takes, pt.11.

AKA "Possible 'oldies but goodies' I stumbled across while browsing Nehaflix".

Hum Bhi Insan Hain(1948) - I feel like I'm missing out by not watching more movies from the 40s and 50s. I must be getting like my dad and longing for "the good ol' days" of black and white films.

Badal(1951) - I thought about ordering this for Madhubala, but then I remembered the other movies I ordered that I haven't yet gotten around to watching. (Howrah Bridge, Mr. & Mrs. 55, and Jaali Note, in case you're wondering.)

Bahar(1951) - For some weird reason I feel like I should watch at least one of Vyjayantimala's movies.

Shama Parwana(1954) - I know nothing about Shammi Kapoor, but I like the shot of Suraiya on the DVD cover.

Railway Platform(1955) - **shrug** The title is almost intriguing enough for me to want to take a look-see.

Paying Guest(1957) - I immediately thought of the just-released Paying Guest(s) with Sayali Bhagat, Riya Sen, Neha Dhupia(?), and some actors I'm too lazy to remember or Google. This version stars Dev Anand and Nutan.

Dulha Dulhan(1964) - Sadhana and Babita were cousins, right? Sadhana was no slouch, but I think Babs was prettier.

Anari(1975) - I'm not a Shashi fan, but I thought he was nice-looking in his youth. Sharmila Tagore was and still is hot, IMO.

Short takes, pt.10.

AKA "What Should I Order Next?"

Dasavathaaram(2008) - As much as I like Kamal, I'm really not jazzed about seeing him in those ten getups. I waver back and forth on whether or not I want to watch this. I can picture myself buying it, but not viewing it right away.

Preminchu Priya(1997) - This appears to be the dubbed Telugu version of Pagaivan. It has Ajith, and Anjala Zaveri, who looks more appealing--to me, anyway--when she's wearing glasses.

Okkadu(2003) - I watched it online and found that I liked it better than the Tamil remake. However, I wasn't really feeling Bhumika Chawla as the heroine. I kinda wish the Telugu version had been the remake and that Trisha reprised her role because from a purely physical standpoint, she was a better fit, IMO.

Villu(2009) - I kid, I kid. I still can't believe it was also released on Blu-ray. Even VHS is too good for this.

Preminchu Priya looks the most promising since it's only $2.99. And, I'm not dying to see it so badly that I'm willing to plunk down $20 for the Tamil custom VCD.

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

Short takes, pt. 9.

Or, "What Should I Waste My Money On Next?"

Black & White - I have no idea what this is about, and I'm too lazy to Google, but Sindhu Tolani is in it, which is good. Jackie Shroff is also in it, which might be not-so-good because for some inexplicable reason I'm not jazzed about seeing him in a Tollywood flick. But, if I can deal with the "shock" of seeing Shakti Kapoor in a Kannada film(Makeup), I guess I can put up with Mr. Shroff.

Premikulu - The plot sounds interesting, but I dunno. It's only $3.99, so it wouldn't be too much of a waste if I wound up not really liking it.

Dhill - I'm not feeling Vikram's hairdo in this movie, but I kinda want to see it, mostly for Laila, my current SLO(Short Lived Obsession). Speaking of whom, she's also in the following flicks:

Akrosam - Dubbed Telugu version of Nandha.

Love Story 1999 - No clue, but Rambha's also in it.

Ullam Ketkume - Also has Asin. Could be a possibility.

Na Hrudayamlo Nidurinche Cheli - ??? I can't seem to find any info on this. Maybe it's a Telugu dub of a Tamil movie.

I have posts in the "draft" stage for Raasi, Mugavari, Andala Ramudu, and Paramasivan that I hope to have published soon(and by "soon" I mean, "Sometime by the end of this year."). I would also like to type something about Rojavanam and Unnidathil Ennai Kuduthen. I wish I could swallow a bottle of motivation pills because that's what I'm lacking these days WRT this blog. I started out great guns and then I lost interest. I have to find a reason to be interested again.

Back to movies: I've bitched about it elsewhere, but I'll bitch here, too: Kannadastore, why Paypal? I don't trust Paypal. If I did, I would get Meera Madhava Raghava, Masti, Satya in Love, and Rama Shama Bhama, and also Kokila and Maria My Darling, even though I have a feeling that the last two are in the "on backorder indefinitely"(i.e. not available) category.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Short takes, pt. 8.

Or, "I feel the urge to start posting again, thanks to the shitload of movies I've ordered."

Today I received: Nijam(I'm watching it right now), Priyamanavale, Thulladha Manamum Thullum, Rowdy Don(dubbed Telugu version of Jana starring Ajith and Sneha), Bobby(Telugu version with Mahesh Babu and Aarti Agarwal(a fellow Pisces!), and Sarada Saradaga(Srikanth isn't a heartthrob, but Sindhu Tolani sure is. Plus, it was only $2.99).

I'm waiting on: Blade Babjee(I got it because of Sayali Bhagat, who I've liked ever since The Train), Chakram(because of Asin, and also Charmi), Annavaram(Asin, as well as Sandhya), I Love You Raa(dubbed Telugu version of I Love You Da. Another $2.99 find, and the plot sounds awesomely bad), Bava Nachadu('cuz of Simran), and Once More(MOAR! Simran!).

Oh, and I liked Ammai Bagundi and Nee Thodu Kavali, as well as my two additional purchases, Mumbai Salsa and Good Luck, even though the former felt like a badly-acted soap opera, and the latter was a lift of the Hollywood movie Just My Luck.

I don't know what else to type, so I'll sign off.

Thursday, February 5, 2009

Short takes, pt. 7.

I haven't been feeling inspired to post a "real" entry, so here's yet another list:

Last night, I watched: Paandu(starring Sneha and Jagapathi Babu), as well the 1980 version of Billa with Rajnikanth and Sripriya. For me, the highlight of the latter film was watching Helen dance in a outfit similar to the one Sridevi wore in Kalakaar. Overall, I thought it was pretty good, but I think I prefer the remake(which is rare, because it's usually the other way around).

The night before, I watched: Julie, the 2006 Kannada remake with Ramya/Divya Spandana and Dino Morea. I liked the antiquated feel in the first half, but hated it in the second half. I wish I had known about and watched the Malayalam original, Chattakari, before it got pulled, especially since it doesn't appear to be available on even VCD.

Last week, I obsessively watched: Ghajini and Billa. With regards to the first flick, even though Nayantara doesn't look her best, and her character is annoying as hell, I still found her appealing. I think it's because of the first couple of minutes of the "X Pichi Y Pichi" song(I have the dubbed Telugu version 'cause it was cheaper).

They were under $5, so I bought them: Nee Thodu Kavali(Charmi's Telugu debut), Ammai Bagundi(because of Meera Jasmine).

I was going to buy: the 2-in-1 DVD of Chakraviyugam solely because of Daisy Bopanna, but I didn't. Maybe next time. Same for the Telugu version of Happy Days.

Posts that are still brewing in my head: Sridevi, Mungaru Male, Kallori, Heartbeats. Hopefully, they'll all see the light of day sometime within the next couple of months.

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

Short takes, pt. 6.

Another day, another boring list. I'll post a real entry eventually.

I'm watching: Sachein(2005)

Before that, I watched a little of: Sorry...Enakku Kalyanam Ayiduchi(2006) and Gharshana(2004). I got the former because of Linda Arsenio's item number. I think she's a sketchball but at the same time, I kinda like her.

Last night, I watched: Unnale Unnale(2007)

Earlier, I tried to watch: Kireedam(2007) and Jalsa(2008), but neither movie held my interest. I might give Kireedam another chance, though.

I want to watch: Mungaru Male(2006), but I'm hesitant to tear off the plastic wrap because I don't know if it's a gift or if it was mailed to me by accident. I might end up opening it, anyway. (ETA: I'm glad I didn't open it, because it was sent to me by mistake. I will mail it to its rightful owner either tomorrow or on Monday. I was hoping it was a "thank you, please keep spending money" for my continued patronage. I guess not. Ah, well.

ETA2: Because I'm a liar(see below re: Heartbeats), I went ahead and ordered it, along with Kallori(I saw a pic of Tamanna/Tamannaah that made me a believer). I'll blame it on my unsatisfied curiosity. If I had never gotten that movie by mistake, I probably never would've considered buying it(and that's another lie, because I HAD been considering it, but I'll pretend otherwise).)

I thought about buying: Manasantha(2002), the dubbed Telugu version of Manasellam, 'cause it's really cheap, but I'm not a fan of dubs, and I've decided that the recently ordered Heartbeats(2007) should be my last DVD purchase for at least a month.

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Short takes, pt. 5.

Rewatched Aata and Aishwarya last night. Very jumbled, stream-of-conscious thoughts on both:

Aata(2007) - Puppies and bubble hips, oh my! Still can't believe Siddarth and Ileana didn't get along on-set. She's a better actress than he gave her credit for because I didn't sense any animosity, and I usually pick up on things like that(already stated this in original Aata entry, but worth repeating). I don't pay close attention, obviously, because Suniel was in this, too, and just noticed last night. More I watch it, the more I like it. Oh, and I prefer Siddarth with longer locks and facial hair(did I already mention this?), looks more like a man instead of a little boy like he does when he's clean-shaven and with shorter hair. And I intend to copy the denim jacket, white tee, and khaki capris Ileana wore in the first half.

Aishwarya(2006) - Upendra-Daisy romance "inspired by" Surya-Asin one in Ghajini. Had a feeling it wasn't just mere coincidence. Liked second disc better than first, but overall, liked movie, had to watch more than once to really get into it. Prefer Uppi's disheveled look in Satyam. I seem to have a thing for guys who look crazy and/or unkempt. The last song is love. "Aishu, I love you!" I don't know, Deepika seemed to have a butt in this one--I recall her Levis commercial and she appeared to have "noassatall". Maybe she was wearing butt pads in this movie, or perhaps it was just the camera angles(I'm referring to the aforementioned last song, there's a part where she's swaying sexily in jeans and a bikini top).

ETA 01/07/10: I rewatched the second half of Aishwarya last night and felt the "cute alien" vibes all over again. She should've stayed in the south. With the exception of Sridevi--and maybe Jayaprada--I tend to lose interest in south heroines after they migrate to the north, the most recent example being Asin(why, oh why, couldn't she have remained in Kolly and/or Tollywood?). Whatever they had in TN, AP, KL, or KA, they seem to lose it once they hit Mumbai. Or maybe that's just my "Bollywood isn't the end-all, be-all" prejudice talking. **shrug**

Saturday, January 17, 2009

Short takes, pt. 4.

A very boring list because I'm feeling too lazy to type an actual entry.

I'm watching: Manmathan

Yesterday, I watched: Billa, Dreamz

In the near or distant future, I might post about: Manasu Palike Mouna Raagam, Sattam, Tik...Tik...Tik, Thai Illamal Naan Illai

I just recently ordered: Arjun, Nandhanam, Perumazhakalam

I changed my mind about ordering: Naa Alludu, Bus Conductor

I think I'll believe the bad reviews and refrain from watching: Villu (ETA: I lied. I had to see for myself how bad it is. I'm almost a half-hour in and all I can think is, "This feels like a parody of a Vijay movie." Not even the presence of Nayantara can save this. So far, Kuruvi and Azhagiya Tamil Magan look like cinematic masterpieces in comparison.

ETA2: Vadivelu mistaken for "an African chimpanzee"? If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that this part of the script was penned by members of the KKK. Why am I still watching this shit? I doubt it will get any better.)

Last night, I had a dream about: Abhiyum Naanum(and I haven't even watched it!)

I've been thinking about: Vaaranam Aayiram. I want to see it mostly for Simran and Divya Spandanna. And I sorta wanna check out Surya's six-pack abs, too ;)

Thursday, January 1, 2009

Short takes, pt. 3.

Yavanika(1982) - I found it online and am trying to watch it now, but I'd really like to go to bed at a decent hour tonight, so I will save it for later. I think my dad would like this because he used to be involved in the theatre when he was younger.

Kuruvi(2008) - Typical Vijay fare. I liked it, but prefer the second half mainly because Vivek was thankfully absent. Trisha looked really good. I read a couple of reviews that stated she looked aged and plump, but she appeared fine to me. **shrug** I guess I have low standards--ha, ha.

Ghajini(2005) - Watched it yesterday because it's been a while since I last viewed it. My introduction to Nayantara. I thought she was annoying as hell, but found her cute and sexy enough to check out some of her other films. Clean-cut Surya was nice, but the crazy-eyed, tattooed version was much hotter. Asin was adorable, maybe a little too adorable, but perhaps she was directed to act that way.

Gharshana(2005) - Another "it's been a while, so I watched it again today". I think I like this slightly better than Kaaka Kaaka, but I'm not sure why. I thought Surya and Jyothika made a better pair and had more chemistry, but for some reason, I'm drawn to Venky-Asin.

Kedi(2006) - Ileana's first and only Tamil film. I have the 2-in-1 DVD because at the time, anytamil didn't have the Ayngaran version in stock. I checked again the other day and didn't see "out of stock" beside it, so maybe it's available? Ileana looked good, as did Tamanna, or however she spells her name these days. Part of me wants to be a Tamanna fan, because she's extremely easy on the eyes, and appears to be a decent actress, but I just can't make myself go ga-ga for her the way I do for Ileana.

Monday, December 22, 2008

Short takes, pt. 2.

I might do more in-depth posts on some or all of these, but for now:

Ek Nai Paheli(1984) - I hope I didn't imagine the chemistry between Kamal Hassan and Hema Malini. Kamal's wig was weirdly hypnotic.

Ullasa Paravaigal(1980) - Not what I expected. A disappointment. I got sick of watching Kamal and Rati Agnihotri getting chased by foreign actors in the second half.

Sivappu Rojakkal(1978) - The wonderbread shirt rocks. Loved the Kamal-Sri chemistry. The "Nothing! Nothing! Nothing! Nothinnnnggggg!" scene is one of my favorites.

Tik...Tik...Tik(1981) - Madhavi's blue bikini is forever etched in my mind, as are the scenes of Kamal lying shirtless in bed and Kamal in his underwear. The ending was very anti-climatic.

Vanakkathukiriya Kathali(1977) - I love Sridevi but I gotta admit, this movie is very slow and boring. It puts me to sleep whenever I try to watch it.

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

Short takes.

Or, "When I Can't Think of Enough Words to Type a Full-Fledged Entry".

Zeher(2005) - I think I'm the only person who doesn't hate this movie. I honestly liked it more than its Hollywood "inspiration", Out of Time.

Kadal Azhivathillai(2002) - Prakash Raj strikes again, this time as Simbu's overly paranoid father. However, last night, as I watched him in Pokiri, I felt something approaching warm fuzzies, probably because it's been a while since I've watched a movie that he's in.

Yogi(2007) - I prefer the Kannada original. Also, I like Prabhas better in stills than on film. When I see him in pics, I'm like, "Mmmmm...", but when I see him in action, I'm less than impressed.

Dishyum(2006) I like this movie but I don't love it. I'm not sure why.

Takkari(2007) - Nitin doesn't do anything for me. The Tamil original, Thiruvilayadal Aarambam, wasn't exactly a masterpiece, but I prefer the pairing of Dhanush and Shriya Saran to Nitin and Sada(who I thought looked sexy, although a tad sleazy(nothing wrong with that) in a couple of songs).

Black Cat(2007) - I could've done without the shots of a bare-chested Suresh Gopi, but overall, I was able to cope. Meena looked a tad aged, but still pretty. (Which reminds me, I need to inquire about that Dreams DVD that doesn't look like it will ever be in stock again.)

Naan Adimai Illai(1986) - This is the movie that solidified my love for the 'Devi. A couple of my favorite lines are "I am going-talking, you are going, going, going!", and "This is a decent home and not a bar!"
