SFR: Reena Roy

This has been a lame posting month, I know. Hopefully, I'll be less of a scrub in 2010.

Topic: Reena is one of those actresses who I feel I should like more than I do, but for some reason, I can't make the leap from "I don't mind her. She's not box cover poison" to full-fledged fan. I own five of her movies, but have watched only three: Sanam Teri Kasam, Raaj Tilak, and Naukar Biwi Ka. I liked her in those flicks(STK and RT especially because of her onscreen chemistry with Kamal Hassan), and I'm sure I would like her in Karishmaa and Inteha if the VCDs would ever become available from Induna.

A few pics I swiped from here and/or here. And for the interested: Reena Roy fansite and YouTube channel.

At-the-moment SLO: Rose Dawn

AKA Hazel Keech

She's an ad film model who's probably best known for her appearance in the "Kahin Pe Nigahen" music video. ETA 02/02/10: Here's a pic of the CD cover:

She had a bit part in Billa(2007) and recently made her Indian stage debut in Raell Padamsee's play "1-888-DIAL-INDIA".

On the 'net: A short interview from two years ago

On YouTube: A couple of ads for TNG apparel

A few caps from Billa. 1-4 are from the "Sei Ethavathu Sei" song:

Some photos I swiped from the ACE Productions site:

NFR: Katrina Kaif

I've always kinda liked her, even though I didn't think she was particularly pretty or interesting enough to last beyond a few forgettable movies. She's had some hits since then, of course, but I doubt any of those films were successful because of her. A sockpuppet could've taken her place and they still would've made money. I can't hate on her game, though. If I were in her position, I'd bask in the glow of someone else's success, too.

I'm tempted to get Malleswari and Balram vs Tharadas, the Telugu and Malayalam movies she did with Venkatesh and Mammootty, respectively. But I'm not totally certain that I really, really want to see them.

I wish I could've found high-res magazine scans to post, but I didn't have the patience to spend a lot of time on Google, so I swiped these old pics from Indiaglitz.

ETA 12/21/09: Speak of the devil and he/she shall appear. Kat on the cover of the latest Filmfare. I'm almost tempted to buy it, but I know it will be a waste of money.

ETA 02/02/10: I just remembered she made her debut in Boom with Top Chef host(ess) Padma Lakshmi. I wonder if it's as bad as I've heard. Induna doesn't have it, and I refuse to pay $15(+s&h) to find out.

On the other hand, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani seems like it might be an okay timepass. Supposedly, Kat does her own dubbing in this film, so that will be interesting to hear. She looks really pretty in the caps posted in this thread. I might buy the DVD from Induna if/when it's marked down to $5.53 or less.

TPP: Asin and Simbu

A few promotional stills(I think) for their aborted project, Aezhumazhai vs Chitra. Too bad the movie never got filmed. They would've made an interesting pair.

An interview they did back in 2005.

TPP: Prabhas in Yogi

Last night, I was thinking about this post and I remembered, "Hey! Prabhas had a bathing scene in Yogi, and I actually found him hot! Maybe I should hunt down that screencap I took and post it." So here it is. I'm not a fan, but I must admit that he does look good wet. This scene was posted to YouTube about a year ago, but I'm too lazy to check if it's still up.

As for the movie itself, I prefer the Kannada original, and that's mainly because of Jennifer Kotwal and, suprisingly, Yana Gupta's item number. (I say "suprisingly" because under normal circumstances, I find Yana inexplicably annoying.)

Aside: Eventually, I'll start posting about movies again. I'm just not in the mood right now.

ETA 01/22/10: While I do like to look at him shirtless(the gratuitous bare torso shots in the Telugu Billa are a good example), I don't think I'll ever be a fan of his, even if he does resemble one of my cousins(seriously! Same eyes, same nose, same facial structure).

SFR: Anita Raj in Zara Si Zindagi

I was watching it about an hour ago and decided that was the perfect excuse to pop the first disc into my computer's DVD drive and make a few caps.

NFR: Mahesh Babu

A couple of childhood photos I nicked from here and here. I wish I could find more, but my Google is broken. (In other words, "Plz HALP thxbai!")

ETA 12/16/09: From louella:

ETA 12/17/09: From filmizest:

ETA 01/22/10: Here are some YouTube clips of a teenage Mahesh in Koduku Diddina Kapuram and Gudhachari 117: un deux trois quatre

ETA 09/12/10: Another one I found here. I meant to post it a while back:

Current SLO: Jacqueline Fernandez

She's a former Miss Sri Lanka who made her Bollywood debut in the recently released Aladin. Her next film is Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, "a rom-com with a lot of sci-fi and special effects." (Source) According to the same site, she was supposed to do a movie with John Abraham, but after Aladin flopped, the director apparently had second thoughts about signing her.

I think she has an interesting, sorta sexy look. At certain angles, she kind of resembles Eva Mendes.

ETA 12/18/09: She looks really good in this video interview with Bollywood Hungama. I don't see the resemblance to Katrina Kaif at all, but on film, I think she resembles a much younger, more attractive version of a certain "adult actress" from back in the day. I might have to check out Aladin if either Nehaflix or Induna lists it for $5 or less.

SFR: Kalki Koechlin in Dev D

I am pathetically in love with the barely legal look she sported as Leni, an adventurous school girl who finds herself the unwitting star of a MMS scandal. She looked so young, and innocent, and childlike with her big, big eyes, huge lips, and un-made up face. If I didn't know any better, I would've assumed she was a teenager.

Acting-wise, I thought she did a credible job. I liked her character the best. That may or may not have to do with the fact that for the 2002 Devdas, while I envied Paro, I was Team Chandramukhi('cuz of Madz).

Click the "read more" link for additional caps.

SFR: "Kaala Kaala" from Kaalai

"Kutti Pisase" used to be my favorite song, now it's this one. I was suprised to learn that Mamta Mohandas is the female singer. It made me like her a little bit more. (Not that I ever hated her, I was just kind of "eh" about her.)

Vedhika is so cute, and she has a great figure. Plus, she's a Sridevi fan, which adds about 25 extra bonus points to her kitty. I'm not exactly dying to watch Malai Malai, Sangama, or Sakkarakatti, but if they show up on bhavanidvd, I might order them, just to see her.

TPP: Ileana

Uninteresting fact: These are the first images I collected of her.

I'm so glad I don't get paid to blog. Not only would I be the queen of missed deadlines, I would also be the queen of unemployment. It's a shame, really. If you saw how many movies I have in my possession you'd probably ask, "Lapetitediva, why don't you blog about this movie or that movie?" And I would say, "Because it feels too much like work." Perhaps if I utter the magic word "HIATUS!" I'll feel inspired to start posting again. I don't know why it's so difficult for me to stick with my various projects. I lose interest so quickly, and so very easily. Anyway...

Ileana. I liked her the moment I spied these pictures. A former online acquaintance thought she bore a resemblance to "Miss Barbie"(our nickname for Aishwarya Rai). I like her mainly because she's pear-shaped and has less-than-perfect skin. Plus, I think she has a cute and charming screen presence. If I could tolerate her co-stars I would order Kick and/or Jalsa.

NFR: Anita Raj

Film related question: "In which movie did Anita look the most beautiful, Zara Si Zindagi or Naukar Biwi Ka?"

My answer: "That's a tough call, but if my faulty memory can be trusted, Naukar Biwi Ka wins by a slight margin."

TPP: Movie related randomness

Because I can't bring myself to type a "real" post right now:

  • I think Amrita Arora is prettier than her over-rated older sister, Malaika.

  • I hated Sivakasi when I first tried to watch it, but now that I want to order it, it's not in stock. Why do I feel like I've been punk'd?

  • I was going to order 7/G Rainbow Colony, solely because I've somehow developed an appreciation for Sonia Agarwal's expressionless face, and then I remembered I already had it on the 2-in-1 DVD of Kedi.

  • Anita Raj looks very pretty in Zara Si Zindagi, but she's no Sridevi. I wasn't feeling her character the way I felt Sri's. (And I think I would say that even if I wasn't a Sridevi stan.)

  • Speaking of Zara Si Zindagi, the songs are not pleasing to my ears. I cannot bear to listen to them. The songs in Varumaiyin Niram Sivappu are much more melodious.

  • One last thing about Zara Si Zindagi: I don't hate it, I just need time(and several more viewings) to get used to it.

  • I still haven't watched Abodh. (ETA 01/06/10: I watched some of it last night. Teenage Madz was so choote. I think the lead actor is the same guy who married Bhagyashree, but I'm too lazy to check(ETA 01/08/10: nope, not him). Right now, I'll declare it "a decent timepass". I'll have to view in its entirety before I make a final verdict.)

  • I'm toying with the idea of randomly giving away a free DVD.

  • Jaali Note isn't bad, now that I remember.

  • I ordered the Ayngaran Kandaswamy DVD. Better picture quality, blah, blah, blah, and really, it's not that bad. But I still think Shriya is the best thing about the movie.

  • I miss the sweetly chubby, unpolished Nayantara from 3 or 4 years ago. These days, she looks kinda jaded and used-up. (ETA 01/05/10: I'm watching her item number in Twenty: 20 and yeah, I definitely prefer the chubbier, slightly awkward-looking version of Nayan. Here, she looks kinda porny and plasticized. (Unrelated: I think Prithviraj looks better with facial hair.))

ETA 12/09/09: Got Kandaswamy today. It's 194 minutes and 27 seconds according to the back of DVD case, which means Santa didn't do me a favor and remove ALL of Vadivelu's scenes. I figured as much, but it doesn't hurt to have hope every once in a while.

ETA 12/16/09: Zara Si Zindagi is slowly growing on me. The songs are beginning to sound less jarring, too. Right now, I find the first half of the movie more interesting than the second.

ETA 01/22/10: I watched Ghajini last night and felt the Nayan love all over again. She wasn't looking her best, but I found her oh-so appealing, flyaway hair, chubby figure, and all. This is the Nayan who pricks my soft spot:

ETA 02/03/10: I think there may be a slight resemblance between the old Nayantara and my best friend from high school. That thought popped into my head when I looked at the Boss DVD cover. (Yeah, I'm weird.)
