Sivappu Rojakkal(1978)

This scene is one of the reasons why I like this movie so much. I'm not even gonna try to explain it, because it makes sense to only me :)

ETA 12/24/09: I LOVED the chemistry between Sri and Kamal. My only regret is that they didn't have sex--albeit the simulated kind--in this movie. Of course, if they had "done it", Sridevi's character would've "had" to die. But because there was coitus interruptus in the form of a phone call from Dileep's(Kamal) assistant, Saradha kept both her virginity and her life intact :)

I felt Kamal was pretty much playing himself: suave, arrogant, misogynistic, and a sex fiend, minus the "killing-women-while-taping-it" part. He was so perfect in the role, I don't even want to remember there was a Hindi remake, Red Rose, with Rajesh Khanna as the lead. I haven't watched it, and as long as I am of somewhat sound mind, I never will. (Yeah, it's that serious.)

To this day, hearing "Ninaivo Oru Paravai" makes me smile. An online acquaintance once remarked that one of the shots of Sri and Kamal lying on the bed made her think of me :) I capped the particular shot she was talking about, and I was going to link to it, but of course I can't find it. ETA 01/14/10: Here it is:

"Ninaivo Oru Paravai" was on a compliation CD I ordered a few years ago from India Plaza but naturally, it wasn't in stock. Incidentally, I got Sivappu Rojakkal from the same place; however, it was on back order for so long, I was afraid I'd never get it. But after about three months, it finally arrived in my mailbox.

While I'm on the subject of songs in the movie, I wish I could get my hands on a copy of the full 15 minute remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love". The edited versions just don't do it for me.

It was remade in Hindi as Red Rose, but without even seeing that version, I'll say that the original is the best, solely because of the Kamal-Sridevi magic :)
