SFR: Ileana in Kick

I love Ileana, but I don't think I will watch this. I can't handle Ravi Teja. He's one of those heroes who triggers my "Ugh!" reflex.

NFR: Amrita Rao

Unveiling Titan's Raga Chocolat collection.

I wish she would do more Telugu movies, preferably with Mahesh Babu. With the exception of Ab Ke Baras, none of her Hindi movies have tempted me to break out my debit card. **thinking** Well, if I ever see Victory in the $5 bin I might get it, because Harman Baweja's "second-rate Hrithik" looks appeal to me for some odd reason.

Paramasivan(2006)

I meant to post about this a while back, but I got sidetracked. Anyway, it's not great but, aside from the unnecessary item number and Vivek's comedy, it's not a bad viewing experience. In fact, I found it to be compulsively watchable. It's a remake of Kartoos, which I have no intention of seeing, so I don't know which version is "better". **shrug**

For me, the best part of the film was Laila. She was a bit OTT with the naive chatterbox act, but still lovably choote. "I come. He come. Same flight" and "You only advise. You no try!" are my favorite lines. I seriously wish I could somehow work them into everyday conversation. **ahem**

Although Paramasivan and Tirupathi were filmed around the same time(I think), I didn't find Ajith to be quite as scarily skinny here as I did in Tirupathi. For the most part, I thought his slimmed-down frame looked good, but during the songs, there were a few times where I was tempted to hand him a sandwich.

I was going to type, "The ending left me kinda cold", but the more I think about it, the more I'm like, "Eh. It was alright. How else could it have ended?" (Well, I can think of other ways, but none of them are necessarily better, so...)

A few caps of the "Oru Kili Kaadhalil" song. No real reason, I just like these particular shots:

Sadma(1983)

I don't like this movie. I began to hate it even more after I read interviews with Bollywood starlets in which they claimed that the type of role they most wanted to do was Sridevi's in Sadma. This is the kind of film that begs to be parodied, especially the last scene. Most people cried, it seems, but I laughed because I have no soul. Until now, I never admitted my true feelings about Sadma because I felt it was somewhat sacrilegious to suggest that it's not one of the greatest Bollywood movies ever. I love Sridevi, but this flick bugs.

However, I must confess that I do like this song, and the one picturized on Kamal Hassan and Silk Smitha because it has a Solid Gold feel to it. But otherwise, nope, this movie's not one of my faves. I wish I hadn't bought it.

Citizen(2001)

I'm on the fence about getting this movie. After watching some YouTube clips, I'm not totally convinced I could sit through this. Some of Ajith's getups remind me of Kamal Hassan in Dasavatharam(even though it was filmed much later, of course), Vasundhara Das is an eyesore, and Ajith looks like he ate nothing but cheeseburgers prior to shooting. I think his chunk looks kinda sexy in this song(jump to 2:32), but here? To quote one of the commenters: "Bad attire does not suit Ajith." Having said that, I think I prefer tubby Ajith to the drug addict look he was sporting in Tirupathi.

Anyway...I don't know. I think I'll pass.

NFR: Mallika Sherawat

She was honored with her own milkshake at Millions of Milkshakes in West Hollywood, California. The "Mallika shake" includes blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, chocolate sauce, and is topped with whipped cream.

I'm gonna be really cheesy and so five years ago and say, "Her milkshake brings all the boys to the yard!" Seriously. I think Mallu is sexy, although I wish she would emphasize her face rather than her figure--i.e. cover up more often, because I think she looks equally, if not more, alluring when she's fully clothed.

Varalaaru(2006)

This movie is Showgirls bad(i.e. fan-fucking-tastic). It almost feels like a satire. And it's so unapologetically misogynistic, I don't know whether to laugh out of embarrassment or political incorrectness.

I will try to type more after I've processed the utter and unintentional hilarity of this flick.

P.S. I totally want to marry this version of Ajith:

P.P.S. Will the "twin brothers separated at birth" storyline EVER die? It is so last century.

ETA: This movie so bad. I laughed and cringed at the same time.

I kinda liked how unlikeable I found Vishnu(Ajith) and Divya(Asin). He looked and acted like an overgrown frat boy on spring break, she was rather ditzy and annoying.

I thought Vishnu's father, Shiva(also played by Ajith), was FILF material. And the scene where he's in his wheelchair, circling around Vishnu and beating him at the same time? Pure comedy.

Don't get me started on the elevator, 'cause I'm jealous I don't have one in my house.

There's no better way to prove that you're "a real man" than by raping the woman who rejected you for being too feminine.[/sarcasm] Having said that, I adored effeminate heterosexual Shiva up until that point.

I liked the part where Vishnu pretends to be Jeeva and feeds Kanika. Had the rest of the movie been less campy, it would've/could've been a powerful scene.

The end credits look like a blooper reel, but it's not, it's an overexplanation of how evil twin Jeeva framed Vishnu for all his bad deeds.

There's more, but those were some of the things that stood out the most for me.

ETA2: The more I watch this, the more affection I have for it. But, it doesn't venture into awesomely bad territory until after the first half-hour. Before that, it's kind of a yawn, and irritating as fuck.

Manav Hatya(1986)

One of Madhuri's earlier films. Here's what little I know, based on what I've read about a year ago on a now-gone forum and in an online article(don't remember the link): She plays a lawyer. She didn't complete the dubbing because sometime during or after shooting, she was discovered by Subash Ghai who cast her in...Ram Laksham, I think. To this day, she refuses to discuss or acknowledge this movie. It's not commercially available, but it's sometimes shown on Zee TV during the wee hours of the night/early morning. Oh, and she supposedly received her first on-screen kiss from co-star Shekhar Suman, who had this to say about it:
"...I remember a song in 'Manav Hatya' where we had to do a kissing scene. It was a funny kiss on screen for me, as we had to kiss on a beat. I was so uncomfortable but Madhuri made me feel very comfortable and relaxed during that scene!" Source

LP cover I found on this site:

Ek Nai Paheli(1984)

I'm not really a Hema Malini fan, but I think she looks very SEKS-SAY in this movie, which is a remake of Aboorva Raagangal.

I thought she and Kamal had amazing chemistry. Or maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part. **sigh**

Sardar Paparayudu(1980)

Remade in Hindi as Sarfarosh(1985).

Sri is a cutie, but her none-too-pretty or youthful co-star NTR is the reason I can't bring myself to watch this all the way through. Same with Vetagadu.
