SFR: Asin

Kavalan(formerly Kaavalkaran) on location stills. As I remarked elsewhere, "This movie looks like hot shit." If it's a hit, I hope Vijay gets on his knees and thanks the hell out of Asin, because her presence would be the main reason this film didn't flop like his last few ventures.

SFR: Asin

At the press meet for Vijay's Kavalan. I hope it does better than Villu and Sura. I want Asin to be successful in Kollywood again.

SFR: Asin and Vijay Kaavalkaran working stills

Even though I know it's going to be the same old shit from Vijay, I will watch this just to see Asin's return--I hope--to Kollywood.

SFR: Asin in London Dreams

Screen caps swiped from this thread on zulm.net.

I sort of want to see this just because I like the way Asin looks in these caps and in the stills I've viewed on bollywoodhungama. But, I'm not a fan of either Salman Khan or Ajay Devgan, and I don't know how well I can tolerate them. Maybe if/when Induna lists the DVD for $1.67 I'll take a chance and order it.

TPP: Asin and Simbu

A few promotional stills(I think) for their aborted project, Aezhumazhai vs Chitra. Too bad the movie never got filmed. They would've made an interesting pair.

An interview they did back in 2005.

Varalaaru(2006)

This movie is Showgirls bad(i.e. fan-fucking-tastic). It almost feels like a satire. And it's so unapologetically misogynistic, I don't know whether to laugh out of embarrassment or political incorrectness.

I will try to type more after I've processed the utter and unintentional hilarity of this flick.

P.S. I totally want to marry this version of Ajith:

P.P.S. Will the "twin brothers separated at birth" storyline EVER die? It is so last century.

ETA: This movie so bad. I laughed and cringed at the same time.

I kinda liked how unlikeable I found Vishnu(Ajith) and Divya(Asin). He looked and acted like an overgrown frat boy on spring break, she was rather ditzy and annoying.

I thought Vishnu's father, Shiva(also played by Ajith), was FILF material. And the scene where he's in his wheelchair, circling around Vishnu and beating him at the same time? Pure comedy.

Don't get me started on the elevator, 'cause I'm jealous I don't have one in my house.

There's no better way to prove that you're "a real man" than by raping the woman who rejected you for being too feminine.[/sarcasm] Having said that, I adored effeminate heterosexual Shiva up until that point.

I liked the part where Vishnu pretends to be Jeeva and feeds Kanika. Had the rest of the movie been less campy, it would've/could've been a powerful scene.

The end credits look like a blooper reel, but it's not, it's an overexplanation of how evil twin Jeeva framed Vishnu for all his bad deeds.

There's more, but those were some of the things that stood out the most for me.

ETA2: The more I watch this, the more affection I have for it. But, it doesn't venture into awesomely bad territory until after the first half-hour. Before that, it's kind of a yawn, and irritating as fuck.

Aalwar(2007)

It's not as bad as I initially thought. I still think Ajith looks ridiculous in the Lord Rama getup, and his monotone kills whatever impact the "Kadavul. Naan Kadavul" line might have had, but overall, I think it's a decent timepass. And the sight of Ajith as a brooding, do-gooder type gets my motor running. I didn't think a mortician could be so appealing. **ahem**

Asin was cute, but she didn't have much to do. To amuse myself, I checked for her supposed "wide hip". (An individual on another site posted something along the lines of, "Her hip is wide enough to screen a movie.") I'm either blind or overly forgiving of her flaws because her hips, at least from what I could see, looked normal to me. **shrug** Besides, compared to some of the fleshier heroines, she's downright bony.

On the first listen, I thought the songs were forgettable. But now I realize that "Pallandu, Pallandu" is really beautiful, and "Pidikkum" and "Mayile Mayile" have grown on me, although I wish the DVD contained the uncensored version of the latter song.

Chakram(2005)

I don't like Prabhas. There's something about his screen presence that irritates me. He's nice to look at, but whenever he opens his mouth, I immediately lose interest. I should've learned my lesson with Yogi and Munna, but I figured, "Charmi and Asin are also in this, how bad could it be?" Much worse than I expected. I wasn't looking for award-winning material, just two hours and change of mindless entertainment, but this flick didn't do it for me.

It started out promising, with Prabhas's character, Chakram, ditching Lakshmi I(Asin) on their wedding day, but swiftly tumbled downhill once he arrived at Sahara Colony. His good samaritan acts failed to move me, so I kept my finger on the chapter skip button until I reached the "big reveal"(which I correctly guessed upon reading the plot summary) near the end. Had the screenplay and/or direction been better, and a different actor cast as the lead, I probably would've liked this film in spite of its predictability.

I might give this another chance, but for now, I'll let it collect dust on my bookshelf.

Sivamani 98480 22338(2003)

I was going to give Majaa another chance, but chose to watch this instead after I discovered that both Asin and Rakshita were in it.

The premise of this flick appears to have been lifted from the 1999 Hollywood movie Message in a Bottle. I had a feeling of déjà vu during the scene where Rakshita is jogging on the beach and finds a bottle containing a letter written by Nagarjuna, whom she later tracks down and falls in love with.

Nagarjuna didn't have his jolie-laide in this movie either, but he did look good in a police uniform.

Does Prakash Raj ever take a break? For shits and giggles I peeped his filmography, and since the early 90s, he's acted in at least 100 movies, including this one, and has several more in the pipeline.

Rakshita is so sensuous-looking. I've had a crush on her since Dum. Minus her glamour, this movie would've been considerably less watchable.

Asin looked young and innocent. I found her particularly alluring in the scenes where she sported minimal makeup and tousled hair.

Perhaps it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I felt there was more chemistry between Asin and Rakshita than either of them had with Nagarjuna. They also made a hotter-looking couple.

The "Yenaatiki" song looks like it was filmed at the same location as Rakhee's "Zara Zara".

I might get this movie. It's not great, but I feel that Rakshita and Asin have enough screen time to justify purchasing it.

Sivakasi(2005)

I like Asin. I like Vijay. But I don't like this movie. I watched only a half-hour before deciding that I'd had enough. It went downhill for me after Vijay's intro-slash-obligatory-fight-scene. And the part where Vijay lectures Asin about her clothing choices only gave me the incentive I needed to click the "stop" button. (Ironically, the same scene in Vijayadasami didn't bother me. Go figure.) I'm glad I didn't buy this without first checking it out. I would've been really disappointed.
